According to a November 2 filing by Genting Singapore, MacDonald's departure took effect on November 1st. The company also stated that the 64-year-old resigned "to pursue personal interests."

MacDonald joined RWS in February 2022 and was appointed a director in February this year. He was responsible for leading the resort's casino operations, driving revenue growth, and improving customer experience.

With 40 years of industry experience, MacDonald started as a dealer at Wrest Point Casino in Hobart, Tasmania, before transitioning to regulatory roles in Queensland. He held leadership positions at Genting, Crown, and Jupiters Gold Coast (now The Star Gold Coast) before serving as Managing Director and Co-Global Head at Macquarie Capital in the investment banking sector.

MacDonald joined Marina Bay Sands in 2010 and two years later became the resort's Chief Casino Officer, where he oversaw performance analysis and strategic planning for all Las Vegas Sands (LVS) and Sands China Limited properties. He held the role for over nine years before moving to Genting Singapore.

MBS Ban over Poaching Suspicions

In an August LinkedIn post, MacDonald revealed that Marina Bay Sands had issued him a persona non grata notice banning him from the establishment's premises, including its hotel, mall, convention center, and casino.

The management imposed the ban after suspecting him of poaching customers and staff during multiple visits in late July, an unusual measure according to gaming industry experts.

At the time, MacDonald dismissed the claims, insisting that his visits were entirely social and unrelated to business.

Despite the controversial ban, MacDonald's resignation may spark interest from major operators, especially in Macau, where companies are adjusting strategies due to regulatory changes and potential stricter oversight.
