Explosion and Fire Cause Chaos in Culiacán Casino
A devastating fire accompanied by explosions tore through an indoor children’s park and a casino in Culiacán, Mexico, on Thursday, 16 January.
Authorities reported that a 39-year-old man was hospitalized with burns to his hands and back, while paramedics treated two other individuals at the scene for shock.
Fireball Erupts and Destroys Building
Footage captured by a motorist showed flames engulfing the roof of the building, with thick plumes of smoke rising. Moments later, a massive fireball erupted, and large sections of the structure began collapsing. In another video, smoke continued to darken the area as a large portion of the building, including its signage, fell to the ground.
According to Civil Defense director Roy Navarrete, the blaze originated at Air Jump Trampolines Park, a children’s activity center, where employees were conducting maintenance. Their attempts to contain the fire failed, allowing it to grow and spread to the neighboring Casino Royal Yak. Navarrete, speaking to N+ Mas News, ruled out any foul play in the incident during a separate interview with Milenio Television.
