Grainne Hurst Takes Helm as CEO of Betting and Gaming Council
Grainne Hurst has started her role as CEO of the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) following the announcement of the appointment back in April.

With over a decade of experience at Entain, where she held various senior roles, including Group Corporate Affairs Director, Grainne brings extensive knowledge of both land-based and online gaming operations to her new position.
Several Leadership Changes at BGC
Grainne’s CEO appointment is part of a larger overhaul in BGC’s leadership structure. The previous CEO, Michael Dugher, has now moved into the role of Chair.
Grainne’s career has seen her make major efforts to enhance gender diversity in the industry, particularly through her involvement as a board member of Global Gaming Women, where she played an important role in expanding the charity’s activities across the UK, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
In her first statement as CEO, Grainne stressed her commitment to implementing the UK Government’s White Paper on gambling reform. She said that she believed the initiative was important in order to guide the industry towards a future characterized by stability and growth, and wants to place a particular focus on increasing diversity within the sector.
During her tenure at Entain, Grainne played a key role in government relations and public sector engagement. She also led the company’s transition from GVC to Entain.

A ‘Crucial Time’ for the BGC
Upon starting in her new job, Grainne said that she believes it is a “crucial time for the BGC’s diverse and growing membership, which supports 110,000 jobs and caters to millions of customers who enjoy a bet each month in the UK.”
She went on to talk about the importance of delivering on the proposals outlined in the White Paper, such as a statutory levy to combat problem gambling, the introduction of an Ombudsman for consumer redress, targeted financial risk checks for at-risk individuals, new betting limits for online slots, and updated regulations for land-based casinos.
Grainne also expressed her gratitude to Michael Dugher for his work as CEO, and she also extended thanks to the BGC’s members for their support.
Dugher welcomed Grainne to the job and said that he was looking forward to working with her.
