Indonesian Police Make Multiple Arrests in Gambling Crackdown
The Indonesian National Police held a press conference where it outlined the progress of its crackdown on illegal gambling in the country, which included the arrest of 370 individuals suspected of participation in these criminal activities.

Any form of gambling is illegal in the jurisdiction and the police in the country state they have been targeting illegal gambling in Indonesia and have spent several months between June and November of this year pursuing criminal networks involved in illegal gambling activities.
They have identified 300 cases of illegal gambling in the country which has led to the hundreds of arrests of suspects. The Anti-Online Gambling Task Force division of the police department said during the investigation they had seized assets worth over Rp78 billion. Additionally they confiscated 357 mobile phones, 572 laptops, and 278 bank accounts related to the criminal gambling activities.
Senior police officers say those arrested face criminal charges for violating the country’s strict anti-gambling and anti-money laundering laws, and if found guilty carry sentences of up to 20 years in prison.

International Criminal Gambling Network Uncovered
During the press conference, it was revealed that as part of a separate investigation, the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim Polri) had uncovered a major online gambling network believed to be run by a Chinese national.
This involved a gambling website that allowed nearly 85,000 Indonesian individuals to place wagers on gambling activities. The police reported they had arrested seven suspects accused of running the criminal gambling operation.
The National Police in Indonesia say all the arrests and the length of the investigations demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing organized criminal gambling networks that are operating illegally in the country. In August the Indonesian government warned it would target payment providers for online gambling operators in the region.
The authorities state they are trying to take preventive actions, which include blocking over 76,000 gambling sites in the region. They are also undertaking a range of thousands of public education activities.
In October, we uncovered an online gambling operation on the SLOT 82-78 website, leading to the arrest of seven suspects, including one foreign national and six Indonesians, connected to a multimillion-rupiah turnover.
