Legalized Sports Betting in Kentucky Sees Rise in Helpline Calls
The Kentucky Council for Problem Gambling has announced there has been a significant rise in the number of calls to its gambling helpline this year with gamblers seeking help with their betting activities.

The rise in calls comes as the US state of Kentucky has entered its first year of regulated sports betting in the region. Stakeholders in the gambling industry in the state say that the first-year revenue in Kentucky exceeded expectations. It is estimated sports bettors in the state have gambled more than $2 billion on wagers in the first year of regulated sports betting in the region.
The number of calls to the gambling hotline in Kentucky has passed 2,000 in a period between January and September, which is nearly double the number of contacts made in 2023. The rise in calls to gambling helplines can be explained by the surge in sports betting in Kentucky and the promotion of safer gaming initiatives in the state.
The Commonwealth of Kentucky has set aside money to help raise further awareness and to provide treatment for our problem and addicted gamblers.
