Sam Hou Fai, the sole candidate for the upcoming Chief Executive election in Macau, has promised to regulate the city’s gaming industry while ensuring it remains a vital part of the local economy.
Macau at night. Candidate for Macau chief executive role promises to support casinos.
Speaking ahead of the sixth Chief Executive election, which is scheduled for October 13, Hou Fai stressed that after his election he will uphold the law to oversee the development of the Macau gaming industry, stating the sector “will not shrink or be shut down.”
Emphasizing Support for Macau’s Gaming Sector
During a recent Candidates’ Platform Presentation and Question and Answer session, Hou Fai outlined his vision for Macau’s future, which included a commitment to maintaining the health of the gaming industry. While his previous remarks referred to the “barbaric expansion” of the industry, his tone during this speech was more measured, with a focus on stability.
Hou Fai reassured the public that the gaming industry, a cornerstone of Macau’s economy, will continue to operate under strict regulation.
The gaming industry is Macau’s primary industry, and if it does not develop healthily, it will have far-reaching consequences. The new government will strictly enforce the new gaming law to protect and supervise the healthy and orderly development of the six concessionaires. The new government will require and supervise the concessionaires to monitor their non-gaming investments of MOP$130 billion in accordance with the contractual requirements so as to promote the diversified development of the Macau economy.

1. Enhancing public governance capabilities and standards;
2. Accelerating the development of a diversified economy;
3. Supporting Macau’s integration into the overall development of China;
