MGM National Harbor Celebrates Year of the Snake with Promos
MGM National Harbor has unveiled an elaborate series of cultural festivities to mark the Lunar New Year and the dawn of the Year of the Snake.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, as it’s known in China, holds a spot among the top five most celebrated festivals globally. As part of the celebrations, families gather to participate in venerable customs, including festive feasts, ritualistic cleaning to banish bad luck, fireworks displays, and lion dance performances.
MGM National Harbor is commemorating the event with several festive activities, including a Conservatory display, a lion and dragon dance performance on January 26, as well as a specially crafted Lunar New Year’s menu at Ginger restaurant.
This year's Lunar New Year Conservatory display at the property will be a visual masterpiece, boasting a 28-foot-tall snake, a 30-foot-tall bonsai tree, a 25-foot-tall golden bamboo forest, and a money tree laden with 260 giant gold coins. The stunning display will be open to visitors from January 10 through March 30.
Ginger’s special menu will be available from January 24 to February 2. It will feature signature dishes such as fried crab claws and golden egg yolk lobster.
The lion and dragon dance is a highlight of Lunar New Year celebrations, as it is thought to dispel evil spirits and invite good luck and prosperity into the new year. The dance will start in the casino’s valet area and then wind its way through the property.

Lunar New Year Promotions
The casino resort, operated by MGM Resorts International, has also launched a series of promotions to make the Lunar New Year more memorable for its guests. Every Wednesday in January, in a promotion named Temple of the Dragon Kiosk Game, guests can Earn one play for every $1.25 slot dollars or 600 Tier Credits from TablePlay between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on each promotional day.
On Saturday, January 18, and Sunday, January 19, Platinum and NOIR players of the casino can get a chance to win up to $8,888 FREEPLAY or an envelope from a real-life money tree, with the top prize being $8,888 cash.
Additionally, the casino will be handing out handcrafted crystal snakes on Saturday, January 25, from noon – 6:00 pm. The crystal snakes symbolize peace, wisdom, and resilience throughout the new year. To qualify for the giveaway, patrons will need to earn $3.00 slot dollars or 1,500 Tier Credits from TablePlay between 6:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
