Nevada Gaming Board Dismisses $1 Million Casino Disputes
In Nevada, the Nevada Gaming Control Board (NGCB) is responsible for resolving disputes between gamblers and casinos. Recently, the NGCB ruled against two player claims, rejecting nearly $1 million in disputed winnings by gamblers in Las Vegas and Reno.

One of these cases centers around a Texas Hold’em game at Resorts World Las Vegas, while the other involves a slot machine win at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno. Together, the disputed winnings totaled more than $900,000.

In the Texas Hold’em case, a player argued that they were owed $500,000 instead of the $250,000 they had received after playing at Resorts World Las Vegas. However, NGCB member George Assad sided with the casino, concluding that the player’s payout of $250,000 was accurate.
Assad clarified that the $250,000 was the total aggregate payout for the game. While betting $1,000 might have produced a $500,000 payout under different conditions, the term “total aggregate amount” limits the payout to $250,000, regardless of the wager size.
I think he (the patron) misunderstood that when they say total aggregate amount, that’s the total amount you’re going to get paid, regardless of how much you bet.
The player’s misunderstanding of this term meant that the board rejected his claim and confirmed that the $250,000 payout was final.

Slot Machine Dispute in Reno Also Dismissed
The second dispute involved a $678,587 jackpot from a slot machine at Grand Sierra Resort and Casino. During the NGCB’s review, it was found that although the slot machine’s random number generator operated correctly, the machine did not “tilt”, meaning the payout was not valid.
Ultimately, the Nevada Gaming Control Board ruled against both patrons, denying their claims to nearly $1 million in combined winnings.
In a recent attempt to reduce disputes over jackpots, a proposal was introduced in September that would prohibit banned gamblers from claiming jackpot prizes, reinforcing the right of casinos to withhold payouts from individuals barred from their premises. The measure aims to help casinos manage disputes and maintain compliance across Nevada’s gaming establishments.
