New Hampshire Collects Record 2024 Betting Tax in September
New Hampshire's sports betting market saw a notable surge in September, with high increases in handle and revenue.
New Hampshire received $4 million in tax revenue from sports betting in September.
According to the figures published by the New Hampshire Lottery Commission, total player bets in the month amounted to $72.8 million. The September handle represents an increase of 8.8% compared to the $66.8 million it received in the same month last year.
Mobile sports betting accounted for $64.3 million of the total revenue. The bets were placed on DraftKings platform, the sole mobile betting regulator in the state. Bets from the three retail sportsbooks in Manchester, Dover, and Seabrook totaled $8.4 million.
With September's handle, the state's total betting volume for the past three months is now at $170.5 million.
Sports betting revenue for the month topped $9.3 million, an impressive 49.9% increase from the $6.2 million generated in September 2023.
The state received $4 million in tax revenue from sports betting in September. This marks the first time in 2024 that the sports betting tax has exceeded $3 million. New Hampshire allocates nearly 28% of its sports betting tax revenue to education.

New Hampshire's stellar September results were expected and align with the upward trajectory observed in other states. The NFL season kicked off last month, sparking predictions that sports betting handle would surpass previous records in several states, including the Granite State.
New Hampshire was one of the first states that legalized sports betting in the United States. The Granite State authorized sports betting in July 2019, months after the US Supreme Court overturned the federal ban on sports betting.
However, casino gambling remains illegal in the jurisdiction. New Hampshire only permits venues to offer table and machine games when partnered with local charities. It also allows cruise ships with gambling machines to dock for up to 48 hours.
