New iGaming Bill Proposed in Ohio Senate
Ohio State Senator Niraj Antani has proposed a new bill to legalize online gaming in the state.
In recent months, several lawmakers have voiced support for online gaming in Ohio.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:While casino gambling is permitted at racinos and other licensed brick-and-mortar locations in Ohio, online gambling remains prohibited. However, Senator Antani's newly introduced bill aims to fill this gap by establishing a legal framework for internet-based gaming in the state.
If approved, the bill would allow Ohioans to legally place bets and play casino games online. The senator believes this expansion will provide residents with convenient access to licensed and regulated online casinos and generate new revenue streams for the state.
As gaming has evolved in our state and we’ve seen massive success with sports betting, it’s now time to legalize iGaming in Ohio. Many Ohioans don’t have close access to a casino or racino but should be able to participate in this entertainment option. It’s time to bring iGaming out of the black market, and into the sunshine to provide it safely to all Ohioans.

Growing Support for iGaming in Ohio
Antani is not alone in his bid to legalize online gaming in Ohio. In recent months, a growing number of state lawmakers and political figures have also publicly endorsed expanding gaming options in the Buckeye State.
In July, three Ohio House Republicans voiced their support for the legalization of online casinos and online lotteries. Representatives Jay Edwards, Jeff LaRe, and Cindy Abrams submitted a joint letter to state officials advocating for the inclusion of iGaming and iLottery in Ohio's legal gambling framework.
The joint letter from the trio highlights several key points in favor of the expansion, including revenue generation, a safe and secure gaming environment, job creation, and more.
Ohio legalized online sports betting in January 2023 and the state received more than $99 million from the venture as tax proceeds in the year.
Currently, more than 35 states have established legal sports wagering markets in their jurisdictions, while only six legalize online gambling, including Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.
