In total, four individuals, including Porter, were implicated in the scheme. Earlier this week, Mahmud Mollah, one of the bettors involved, entered a guilty plea, similar to those of Porter and Long Phi Pham, another person tied to the scandal. The three have all admitted guilt in a conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
There are two individuals remaining connected to the scheme also facing charges, but they have not yet submitted pleas.
Sentencing Dates Announced
It is alleged that the group manipulated game outcomes by acting on insider information provided by Porter. Specifically, Porter is accused of exiting games early, giving members of the betting ring the chance to place bets that were guaranteed to win.
Mollah’s involvement in the scheme included placing bets on a Toronto Raptors game against the Sacramento Kings on March 20, which would have led to a $1.1 million payout. However, because sportsbooks flagged the game as suspicious, Mollah’s winnings went unpaid. According to reports, Porter was also due to receive a share of any winnings.

As a result of his actions, Porter received the NBA’s harshest punishment of a lifetime ban and he now faces legal consequences. Following his guilty plea in July, Porter is scheduled for sentencing on December 18, with potential prison time of up to four years. Mollah’s sentencing, meanwhile, is set for May 2, 2025.
In response to the scandal and Porter’s ban, the NBA recently updated its guidelines to restrict cell phone and social media usage during games. The changes are part of the league’s efforts to safeguard game integrity as sports betting becomes more prevalent across the US.
