With around 440,000 followers on Facebook, the 30-year-old boxer had been using his online presence to advertise gambling websites, charging THB1,500 (approximately $45) per post. Sutthiwat admitted to these activities, stating, “I am the owner of the Facebook page and was paid by the gambling website owner to post advertisements in my stories.”
The crackdown on Sutthiwat is part of a broader investigation aimed at combating illegal gambling promotion in Thailand. The operation was spearheaded by Police Lieutenant General Jiraphob Bhuridej and Police Major General Athip Pongsiwapai, who conducted an in-depth examination of the boxer's online activities. Using sophisticated forensic methods, TCSD officers tracked down Sutthiwat's involvement in promoting these gambling sites. Once sufficient evidence was gathered, authorities moved in to question him, during which he confessed to violating Thailand's strict gambling laws.
This case marks a direct infringement of Section 12 of the Gambling Act of 1935, a law that explicitly prohibits unauthorized gambling advertisements. By promoting gambling websites, Sutthiwat faces charges that carry serious legal implications. The TCSD is currently compiling all necessary evidence to formally press charges against him.
