2021 WSOP Kicks Off with New Rules and Events
The 2021 World Series of Poker started yesterday at the Rio in Las Vegas and is scheduled to run through November 23. The 52nd edition of the event brings the usual fun and excitement associated with WSOP seasons every year.
This year's action is taking place at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino, and it features Poker players from all walks of life competing for different prizes.
As usual, the poker series features 88 events, and it kickstarted with the Casino Employees No-Limit Hold'Em tournament, which had a buy-in of $500. The tournament is in progress as of the time of writing this news, and it features a prize pool of $175,000.
The WSOP Main Event will start on November 4 to November 17, when the champion will be declared. The game features the usual buy-in of $10,000 and a prize pool running into millions of dollars.
However, there are new events you should look forward to in the 2021 WSOP Poker series. They include a $1,000 Flip and Go No-Limit Hold 'em Tournament, COVID-19 Relief No Limit-Hold 'em Charity Event with a $1000 buy-in, and Poker Hall of Famers Bounty tournament where members of the Poker Hall of Fame will be invited to play as a freeroll. Each member will have a bounty placed on them, with a $1,979 buy-in for other players to the Hall of Fame opening in 1979.
This year, due to the pandemic, players are required to be vaccinated before attending the event. The rule states that newly vaccinated players must be fully vaccinated. They must have had their first shot within 14 days of the tournament start date. This requirement caused ripples in the poker scene, with several professional and amateur players disagreeing with the rule.
However, Ty Stewart, executive director at WSOP, is optimistic about full attendance. He said: "Throughout the storied history of the WSOP, this year will be particularly memorable, and we're preparing for a poker reunion all players can celebrate. We're beyond thrilled to offer a complete schedule of can't miss events including all our flagships and the variety players deserve."
The 2021 WSOP series will be televised on the CBS Sports Network and Poker
