32Red and Platinum Gaming’s Fails Attracts £7.1m UKGC Fine
The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has fined 32Red and Platinum Gaming £7.1m for social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures.
According to the regulator, the two operators, both part of Kindred Group, failed to minimize the risks of customers experiencing gambling harm.
32Red was particularly sanctioned for not identifying customers at risk of harm based on their session times and not putting enough controls on its site to identify and protect problem gamblers. Following its investigation, the United Kingdom Gambling Commission found that one customer was allowed to deposit £43000 and lose £36000 within seven days on the site.
Platinum Gaming also failed to identify problem gamblers as it allowed self-excluded or blocked players to register on its platform even after they self-excluded on 32Red.
The regulator handed 32 Red Limited, which runs 32red.com, a fine of £4,195,655, while Platinum Gaming Limited, the operator of unibet.co.uk, will pay £2,937,599.
These failures highlight clearly that both operators failed to interact with customers in a way that minimizes the risk of them experiencing harms associated with gambling. Our investigations also showed that policies and procedures were overlooked, both around customer accounts and anti-money laundering practices. Ultimately, it is an example which all gambling operators should take notice of to ensure they protect customers at all times.
