Chicago Casino Proposals Down to Three Remaining Contenders
It has been announced by the mayor of Chicago that the process of selecting a bid for a proposed new casino in the city has, after years, come down to the final three bids, with projected build costs for each casino at around $1.5 billion.
It was hoped that the selection process would have been completed by the end of March this year. However, officials stated the process was taking longer as they had to have in-depth consultations with members of the community. This is partly due to the three bids being on different sites and the additional benefits each one would have on local people. Some of the more prominent residents of Windy City recently expressed their views on the shortlisted candidates.
If we had selected one site without having had further engagement within the community then, I think that would have been very difficult for us to hold to the values of transparency and community engagement that we do with every major development.
The selection process has now been extended by a few months, with consultations with the public starting in April. The three remaining proposals are.
The Bally’s Corporation has proposed the Bally’s Tribune casino, a project that would include a hotel with 500 rooms, bars, restaurants, cafes, and a couple of arenas. There would also be a large gaming area with over 100 tables and more than 3,000 slot machines.
The second remaining bid is the Hard Rock proposal, The Hard Rock Chicago site. This would consist of around 160 casino table games and 3,000 slot machines. As well as a 500-room hotel with restaurants, lounges, bars, and a 3,500-seat venue. The bid also gave details of the 3,000 jobs the casino would create and the 16,000 construction jobs to complete the project.
The Rivers 78, from Rush Street Gaming, is the last casino proposal in the bidding process. In the bid is a 300-room hotel with many entertainment areas, and in the casino area, 200 table games and 2,600 slot machines. There is also a provision in the bid for affordable housing of around 10,000 units.
