The suspect has been named as 37-year-old Chinese national, Wang Yilin, and he is wanted by the Chinese authorities for his part in an alleged multi-million illegal gambling operation. They have requested the Philippines to have Wang deported back to the country, to Guangzhou in China.
The illegal gaming operation involved offering online casino games and is claimed by the Chinese authorities to have netted its participants a figure estimated to be around $8.3 million. The Philippines government has indicated that following his arrest and eventual exclusion the suspect is to be placed on an immigration blacklist and barred from re-entry into the country in the future.

The detention of Wang in the Philippines demonstrates the ongoing collaboration in recent years between the Chinese government and its neighboring countries as they try to crack down on illegal gambling operations carried out by organized crime gangs.
