Cliff Castle Casino Have Their Hopes Dashed
Confusion ruled the day in Arizona when the Cliff Castle Casino was awarded online sports betting license by the Arizona Department of Gaming, only to have the license taken away a couple of days later.
The Verde Valley casino is understandably upset by the decision, but the Department of Gaming are adamant that their decision is final.
According to Cliff Castle Casino, an event wagering operator license was issued on August 23rd for the purpose of online sports betting, and this decision was fully expected because the casino had recently formed a partnership with PointsBet.
The news of the online sports betting license was not announced by the Cliff Castle Casino but instead by an online gambling website.
On August 25th, a representative from the Arizona Department of Gaming contacted Cliff Castle Casino to inform them that the online sports betting license had, in fact, been issued by an administrative error.
The fact that we were issued a license and then told that we did not get a license, with no explanation, has raised more questions than answers about the license allocation process.
Cliff Castle Casino is owned by the Yavapai-Apache Tribe, and the revenue which is generated by the casino supports various programs in the Phoenix area.
To say that this administrative mix-up by the Arizona Department of Gaming will have a negative impact on tribal programs would have to be regarded as something of an understatement.
