The project, scheduled to begin in early 2026, is a key part of Crown’s strategy to improve its entertainment offerings and attract a broader audience.

The redevelopment follows recent investments at Crown’s Australian properties, including the launch of Marmont on Melbourne’s riverwalk, the Kolkata Cricket Club dining experience, and the soon-to-open Urban Food District at Crown Perth.

Working to Improve Melbourne’s Tourism Industry

Originally opened in 1997, The Palms’ transformation aims to strengthen Melbourne’s tourism industry and provide a boost to the local entertainment economy.

The redevelopment of The Palms will allow us to attract the premier international and domestic performers and shows that we know our guests want to see at Crown. This project is the first of many as part of our strategic vision to continue investing in Crown Melbourne to transform Crown into Melbourne’s ultimate entertainment destination and significantly contribute to Melbourne’s cultural economy as we work to revitalize our city’s nightlife, entertainment and dining experiences.

Expanding Beyond Casino Gambling

Crown’s parent company, Blackstone, has committed to making several investments across Crown’s Australian portfolio with the aim of reducing reliance on gaming revenue and broadening its appeal. This change comes amid tighter regulatory scrutiny and economic pressures, including rising living costs and reduced discretionary spending.

In a recent interview, Crown Resorts CEO Ciarán Carruthers explained that they are focused on “ensuring Crown is seen as more than just a casino”. He spoke about how they offer a “full entertainment experience” that will appeal to a wide range of guests.

The redevelopment of The Palms is another step towards achieving that goal, and it will give visitors to the resort the chance to enjoy world-class entertainment as well as casino gambling.
