Crown Resorts Launches Playsafe Scheme to Combat Gambling Harm
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Crown Resorts, the Australian gaming and entertainment operator, has announced the launch of an AUS $13 million scheme aimed at reducing gambling harm for customers.
The scheme called Crown Playsafe comprising of four key initiatives to maximize the safety of gamblers at Crown Resorts and forms part of a range of measures to prevent players from being put at risk of gambling addiction.
The changes proposed by Crown also include a dedicated gambling research team that is tasked with looking into player welfare.
We know that we can do more to maximize player safety, which is why Crown is scaling up all efforts to introduce these world-leading initiatives that help to educate and support guests to play in a positive and safe way. The plan addresses new and emerging challenges associated with gambling harm, including how we improve our understanding of gambling participation and develop new harm reduction concepts and ideas.
Four Priority Measures for Player Safety
The Crown Playsafe program has outlined 4 measures to identify and prevent players who may be at risk from gambling-related harm.
Crown wants to focus on prevention and safer play by following a strategy that is incorporated into the development of its gambling products.
The second key measure is to build a safer gambling culture, it intends to work with other industry stakeholders to prevent gambling harm.
Thirdly the operator wants to offer vulnerable or at-risk players increase support, which includes using technology to introduce features that provide a safer environment and combat problem gambling.
Finally, the operator wants to gain a greater understanding of the gambling behavior of its players and has stated it will invest in research and more data analysis of players.
Gambling Harm Research Team
Crown has invested in a gambling research policy team which is headed by gambling harm expert Dr. Jamie Wiebe.
The team has been tasked with developing gambling awareness and educational tools for players. As well as promoting seminars on safer gambling for gaming industry stakeholders.
While our knowledge and understanding of gambling harm has deepened over the years, the introduction of new reforms and expanded support for vulnerable or at-risk players will make it easier for guests to manage and play within their personal limits.
