DRA Suspends Young Darts Star after Suspicious Betting Patterns
The Darts Regulation Authority (DRA) has announced that following an alert over suspicious betting patterns during matches, it has suspended the young darts player Leighton Bennett.

The alerts came from the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the wagering monitoring organization, who revealed they believed there were suspicious betting patterns in matches involving Bennett during the MODUS Super Series competition.
The event was held last year, and the matches highlighted potential corruption took place between September 6 and September 9. The IBIA showed its integrity report for betting activities in 2023.
Bennett was one of two players involved in this investigation and Billy Warriner is the other player who has been named and suspended over these allegations. The DRA was quick to point out that the opponents of Bennett and Warriner in these matches were not believed to be involved in any wrongdoing and were not under investigation.

Players to Face a Disciplinary Hearing
The DRA stated that both players are to be suspended until the conclusion of the disciplinary hearing to be held by the regulatory body. The DRA Disciplinary Committee has indicated that it will conduct a formal hearing at a later date.
Leighton Bennett is just 18 and was seen as an up-and-coming darts star. This course of events shows that young sports stars need to be educated and warned about the consequences of involvement with illegal gambling activities. It highlights the potential career-ending punishment and loss of earnings a player can incur if found guilty of match-fixing and corruption.
Under the DRA guidelines, Bennett has the right to appeal the suspension and answer the charges set out in the governing body’s judgment.
The Darts Regulation Authority with support from the Gambling Commission Sports Betting Intelligence Unit conducted a thorough investigation into the allegation. The DRA Chairman Nigel Mawer has now decided that Leighton Bennett and Billy Warriner both have a case to answer for a number of serious breaches of the DRA Rules. As a result of this decision, Leighton Bennett and Billy Warriner have been suspended from attending or competing in DRA-governed events until the conclusion of the hearing or hearings and the determination of this matter. Both players have the right to appeal the suspension decision.
