Greek Regulator Puts Gambling Changes Out to Consultation
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The Hellenic Gaming Commission (EEEP), the Greek gaming regulator, has announced it has started a consultation process with industry stakeholders concerning several proposals to change regulations for casinos.
The EEEP is thinking of introducing a national self-exclusion register for gamblers who feel they are at risk of gambling addiction. Other proposals include a card scheme for players at casinos in the country and a training regime provided by gaming operators for its employees.
The proposals for changes to the gaming industry in Greece have been put to gaming operators, and these stakeholders have until the middle of September to provide feedback and ideas to the EEEP. The government will then proceed to debate the proposals and feedback from stakeholders before updating any gambling regulations.
EEEP Proposals for Gaming Regulations
The details of a self-exclusion register for vulnerable gamblers would be operated by the EEEP and cover the entire Greek jurisdiction. Gamblers would be able to choose a period between a week and 10 months, and this would ensure players a banned from all betting services for that period. Additionally, players would have to use a ban lift request to apply to lift any restrictions on a player being free to enjoy a wager.
The draft law also includes a proposal to ensure gaming operators have a mandatory space set aside for their live dealer offering. Live dealer games must be operated from this space and outfitted with specialist equipment.
The EEEP want casinos to provide training to their employees on all aspects of social gaming responsibility and player protection. The new proposals include a provision by gaming operators to appoint a dedicated training manager who can collaborate with the EEEP to keep updated with the latest gaming regulations.
Player Cards for Responsible Gaming
Another proposal is to introduce a player card for all individual gamblers, this would be a link between land-based casinos and online gaming operations.
This would allow advanced analysis to be performed on player behavior, identify gamblers who may be at risk from gambling-related harm, and offer players help if needed.
