Flutter Rumored to Be Considering a Bid for Italian Lottery License
Flutter Entertainment, the global leading casino and sports betting operator, is rumored to be considering a bid for the license to operate Italy’s main lottery. This comes as the Italian authorities have opened the bidding process for the next lottery license which is due to start at the end of this year.

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Under the details of the bidding process the gaming authorities in Italy have indicated that any parties interested in bidding for the license must submit a proposal by March 17th this year and which starts at a payment of €1 billion. The duration of the next license is stated to span the next 9 years, and it is estimated that the total value of winning the bidding process to operate the Italian lottery could be over €4 billion.
Industry insiders think Flutter may also explore the possibility of entering into a partnership agreement with another gaming operator. Senior leadership at Flutter have previously expressed that the group may consider a move for the Italian Lottery but only if it fits in with its long term business objectives.

Flutter to Increase its Presence in Italy
A bid to run the Italian Lottery would increase the presence of the Flutter group in the country, following its acquisition of Snaitech completed at the end of last year. it is estimated the Sisal and Snaitech deals gave Flutter an immediate market share of more than 30% in the Italian online gaming market.
In September 2024 Flutter stated it had agreed to acquire Snaitech for a reported €2.3 billion and the deal is expected to be completed in Q2 this year.
One of the benefits of running the Lottery operations would be economies of scale of its operations in Italy, and its Sisal platform allows customers in Italy to play online and would create many cross selling opportunities on the casino and sports betting platforms.
