Former AFL Boss to Lead TabCorp as CEO
Australian gambling company Tabcorp has announced that former Australian Football League (AFL) Chief Executive Gillion McLachlan will be its new Managing Director and Chief Executive.
McLachlan is expected to earn at least $1.5 million annually, plus bonuses in the new position.
McLachlan will assume the new role on August 5 and serve as an observer until the necessary regulatory approvals are granted.
McLachlan is expected to earn at least $1.5 million annually, including bonuses in the new position. He will also be entitled to short-term and long-term incentives in addition to his base salary. His employment includes a 12-month non-compete clause, which will come into effect when he exits the company.
McLachlan departed from the AFL job in 2023 after spending several years in the position. He began his career at the AFL in 2000 before being promoted to Chief Operating Officer in 2008. He subsequently became Deputy Chief Executive in 2012, which ultimately paved the way for his eventual appointment as CEO in 2014.
During his tenure, he oversaw significant milestones, including establishing the Australian Football League Women (AFLW) competition, expanding the AFL to 18 teams, and the league's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Although he announced his intention to step down in 2022, he remained in the role until 2023 at the AFL's request for a smooth transition.
Tabcorp is a wagering, broadcast, and integrity services business, and the challenges of growing it are appealing. Tabcorp is a proudly Australian company that contributed $1.10bn to the racing industry last year and continues to be one of the racing industry's biggest partners, as well as the wagering licensee in all states, except for WA.
