Gambling Commission Protects Gamblers with New Bonus Rules
The Gambling Commission has introduced new regulations governing the types of bonuses and promotions that online casinos can offer to their customers.

The first rule prohibits operators from offering mixed-product promotions, such as bonuses that reward players for playing casino games and placing sports wagers.
The commission supports this regulation with research showing that customers who engage with multiple gambling products are at increased risk of harm and may struggle to understand the terms and conditions attached to bonuses. With the measure, the commission aims to reduce harm and promote fairness and openness in its gaming environment.
10x Wagering Limit
The second amendment will reduce the maximum wagering requirement to ten. This means that operators will no longer be able to set wagering requirements above ten times the bonus amount, which makes it easier for customers to withdraw winnings.
For example, a 40x wagering requirement on a £10 bonus means players must place £400 worth of bets before they can withdraw any winnings.

According to the Commission, excessively high wagering requirements, like the illustration, can confuse consumers and cause them to gamble more frequently and for extended periods than usual.
By lowering the requirement, the likelihood of harm is expected to decrease. The move will also simplify the bonus-claiming process and increase transparency without limiting consumer freedom.
The new rules will take effect on December 19, 2025.
These changes will better protect consumers from gambling harm and give consumers much better clarity on, and certainty of, offers before they decide to sign up.
The UKGC is introducing these new changes amid its ongoing consultation on how gambling deposit limits should be structured in the jurisdiction.
The consultation, which will end on April 30, 2025, seeks player perspectives on deposit and net deposit limits to inform part of the commission’s upcoming consumer control regulations to be implemented in October.
