GGL Adds Dazn Bet to German Gambling White List
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:German gambling regulator Gemeinsamen Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL) has awarded Dazn Bet a license to provide sports betting services in Germany.
Established in April 2022, Dazn Bet was registered in Malta as part of a partnership between sports media streaming service Dazn and Pragmatic Gaming.
With the approval, Dazn Bet becomes the latest operator to join the sports betting section of Germany's white list. The brand will conduct its operations under the German-facing domain Daznbet.de in the country.

Some other operators on the white list include Jackpot50, Tipico, Interwetten, SkillOnNet, Ladbrokes, Bwin, Bet-at-Home, and several others.
The white list was created following the formation of Germany's gambling regulatory body (GGL) by Germany's GlüNeuRStv, the Fourth State Treaty on Gambling, which became effective in July 2021. The list contains operators that have been given the go-ahead to operate in Germany.
GGL Responsibilities
After its establishment in July 2022, the GGL took full control of responsibilities from its predecessor, the Saxony-Anhalt State Administration Office, in January 2023.
The regulator's roles include licensing new platforms and tackling illegal gambling within Germany. Over the past months, the latter has been the main focus of the gambling regulator as it strives to ensure a secure and well-regulated gambling environment for the country.
Any operator not on the list and accepting bets from German players is automatically considered illegal and could be sanctioned by the GGL.
In June 2023, the GGL released its annual report showing that as of December 2022, there were 207 unlicensed operators in the country providing gambling services through 843 websites in the German language. Among these operators, 136 offer various gambling options, while the remaining 71 focus exclusively on a single activity.
