IBIA Report Shows a Rise in Suspicious Betting Alerts in 2024
The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), the wagering monitoring organization, has announced the publication of its 2024 Sports Integrity Report, which revealed there had been an increase in suspicious betting alerts.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:In a breakdown of the report's figures, there were 219 suspicious betting alerts in total for 2024, which is a year-on-year rise of 17% when compared to the same period for the previous year. The report covered 12 major sports played globally and the most alerts occurred in Football and tennis. IBIA flagged 75 football games and 58 tennis matches that it identified as having unusual wagering patterns. Both sports accounted for 61% of the total events raised by the monitoring organization.
The integrity organization has a global reach and its membership includes many tier 1 gaming operators. IBIA has the ability to analyze more than $300 billion of sports wagers annually as it looks for unusual betting patterns. The sporting events flagged as suspicious were raised across 53 countries and the report listed the Czech Republic and Turkey with the most alerts receiving 19 and 11 warnings respectively.

IBIA Prompt Multiple Investigations
The IBIA boasted that its monitoring procedures had led to it identifying 33 matches in sports events in 2024 that are now under investigation for corruption. This has led to more than 17 charges being brought against players, sports clubs, and officials for breaches of sports betting regulations.
The monitoring organization is growing each year and adding new members which gives it more data to analyze and a greater ability to identify erroneous betting activity. Additionally the IBIA says it has introduced cutting edge technology to improve its process of monitoring large sports datasets.
Last year the IBIA urged gambling industry stakeholders in the LatAm region to promote sports betting integrity.
The integrity position remains relatively consistent with previous years, with the focus of suspicious betting remaining primarily on football and tennis. A geographical shift away from European sporting events was observed, but it is too early to determine if this is an ongoing trend. As with all potentially corrupt activity, IBIA is analysing the data and working with its members and global integrity network to implement targeted countermeasures. IBIA’s growing membership are resolute in their commitment to identifying, disrupting, and preventing corrupt sports betting activity and to working with stakeholders.
