Illinois Lawsuit Claims Stake.US Breaches Gambling Laws
The law firm that won a class action suit against High 5 social casino in Washington is now pursuing legal action against Stake.US, one of the major players in the sweepstakes casino space.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Filed in the Northern District of Illinois, the latest lawsuit was brought by Brayden Urdan, a resident of the state. Urdan accuses Stake.US of replicating its real-money gambling platform, Stake.com, while disguising itself as a free-to-play social casino.
The complaint argues that Stake.US has breached Illinois gaming and consumer protection laws and profited through deceptive practices. Much like previous lawsuits targeting sweepstakes casinos, this case challenges the platform’s dual-currency model, which is often designed to make a paid gambling experience appear legally compliant.
Shared Promotion Tactics
One of the lawsuit’s core claims is the shared marketing approach between Stake.com and Stake.US. According to the filing, both platforms use the same high-profile celebrity endorsers, including music artist Drake and UFC fighter Israel Adesanya.
The point of Stake’s aggressive sponsorship strategy is clear: by linking itself with globally admired celebrities and teams, Stake aims to normalize online gambling, increase consumer trust, and disguise the risks of gambling behind an appealing entertainment-focused image. Critically, Stake.us and Stake.com sponsor the exact same celebrities and sports teams, further demonstrating that Stake.us is simply a strategic copy of Stake.com, deceptively rebranded as a “social casino” to evade gambling regulations.

Second Major Lawsuit Against Stake.US in 2025
This is the second lawsuit Stake.US has faced this year. A similar complaint, filed by Dennis Boyle in California, also raised concerns about the platform’s structure. That case, initially filed in state court, has since been moved to the federal court system.
Representing Urdan is Edelson PC, the same firm that achieved a $25 million judgment against High 5 in Washington. That case is considered a landmark moment, as Washington’s legal framework is known for its rigorous stance on online gambling.
Illinois also has provisions allowing individuals to recover gambling-related losses through the courts. Urdan claims he lost $15,000 while using Stake.US since joining in 2022.
