Indiana is set to welcome its 13th commercial casino as the Terre Haute Casino Resort prepares to open its doors on Friday at 10:30 a.m. This unveiling follows nearly three years of planning and construction, marking a significant addition to the state's gambling landscape.
Situated near the Indiana-Illinois state line, approximately 150 miles directly south of Northwest Indiana, the new Churchill Downs casino boasts an array of offerings. With 1,000 slot machines, 36 live table games, a poker room, and a cutting-edge sportsbook, it promises an immersive gaming experience for patrons.

The selection of Churchill Downs to spearhead the Terre Haute casino project by the Indiana Gaming Commission in November 2021 came after previous license holder Lucy Luck Gaming failed to make substantial progress in casino construction within the allotted timeframe.

Recent developments in Gary's gaming landscape, notably the successful launch of the $300-million Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana in May 2021, underscore the state's evolving casino market dynamics.
Despite earlier plans for revenue-sharing agreements between Gary and Terre Haute, subsequent ownership changes and regulatory decisions severed ties between the two entities, altering anticipated financial arrangements.
Reflecting its commitment to local development, the Hard Rock Casino recently contributed $3 million towards blight elimination initiatives in Gary, complementing its ongoing annual payments to the city.
