As announced by the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, Kewadin Casinos will resume operations at its different locations this week.

The phased reopening began on Wednesday, February 26, at noon, with the flagship location in Sault Ste. Marie. The Kewadin Casino St. Ignace site will reopen on Friday, February 28, followed by the Manistique, Christmas, and Hessel locations on Monday, March 3.

Upon reopening, all Kewadin Casino hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues will resume their standard operating hours. The Tribe also assured guests that all necessary measures are in place to ensure the security of their credit card transactions.

Furthermore, the Tesla concert scheduled for 8 p.m. on February 28 at Kewadin Casino Sault Ste. Marie will go on as planned.

Kewadin Casinos initially shut down on Sunday, February 9, following a ransomware attack that led to a system-wide shutdown. The cyberattack also caused disruptions to vital services supporting other tribal operations of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.

Following the incident, the Tribe quickly assembled a team of law enforcement officials, legal advisors, and cybersecurity specialists to investigate and remediate the issue and have since fortified their IT systems against future threats.

Some tribal organizations were impacted more severely than others and are still recovering, but we’re fortunate to be able to reopen Kewadin’s doors and continue serving as a prime entertainment destination for the eastern U.P. To our guests who were unable to visit us during this time, I am very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused. Our team worked with outside cybersecurity experts around the clock to make the necessary steps to strengthen and enhance our IT systems, and we are open and ready for business.
