Kansspelautoriteit Improves CRUKS Exclusion Tool
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The Dutch gambling authority, Kansspelautoriteit, has upgraded its self-exclusion platform, Central Register for Self-Exclusion of Games of Chance (CRUKS), making it easier for players to temporarily or permanently unsubscribe from gambling sites.
According to the KSA, users can now easily set up a gambling exclusion period for at least six months on the improved CRUKS website- cruksregister.nl.
Before the improvements, players that self-exclude for longer than six months can choose to unsubscribe quickly. However, the KSA has introduced a new eight-day reflection period before users can close their betting accounts to prevent impulsive unsubscriptions.
As part of the new changes, the gambling authority also replaced the term “play pause” with “gambling stop” on the CRUKS site to indicate “clearer implications of self-exclusion.”
The self-exclusion period has also been extended to land-based gambling properties. Players can now take a break from physical and online casinos for more than half a year.
KSA founded CRUKS in October 2021. The platform has since witnessed over 38,000 sign-ups. Participation was encouraged by the KSA through its rule that states that all licensed gambling operators in the jurisdiction must ensure that their player databases are connected to CRUKS.
The integration allows bookmakers to check if a player has registered and restrict those who have signed up from using their gambling services.
Meanwhile, KSA has announced that it will proceed with its crackdown on gambling advertising from July 1. The regulator had laid down a stricter advertising policy that operators must abide by starting from the D-date. Some of the new advertising laws include the prohibition of gambling commercials on TV and in public places like billiards and print media.
Operators must also ensure that their promotional content only targets audiences aged 24 years and above.
