License Approval for Nugget Casino
Following a hearing that was held by the Nevada Gaming Control Board, a license was unanimously granted to Century Casinos as its new owner of the Nugget Casino Resort after initially announcing its intentions to buy the resort in February 2022 for $195 million.
With numerous points on the agenda for the meeting, at the 75th minute, it was announced by executives at Century that they intended to make updating and modernizing Nugget Casino’s gaming floor a top priority.
Over the last 12 months, Century has been drawing up the necessary plans in order to make the tweaks that it feels are important for its progress over the next few years for the Reno resort.
Major Renovation Planned for Nugget
Part of the ambitious plans includes an almost complete overhaul, with the company keen on bringing the feel of the casino into the 21st century.
As a result, as well as total modernization throughout, the casino will also see alterations to the floor plan, with the central bar area playing an important part in this to make it even more accessible to more customers.
It is also understood that there will be over 100 new slot machines installed on the gaming floor, while even more tables could well be added.
Currently, players can find 29 tables, numerous restaurants, and an outdoor colored amphitheater that seats 8,555 people.
We have been looking at entering the Reno market for a long time, and we believe the Nugget is a perfect fit for our portfolio. We look forward to welcoming the great team at the Nugget to Century Casinos. We believe there is a lot of upside to this transaction and that we identified some areas of improvement to continue the Nugget's growth.
Progressive Growth for Century
Entering the Reno market represents somewhat of a significant coup for Century Casinos, which is witnessing substantial growth currently.
Operating 17 casinos across the United States, Canada, and Poland, it sees 75 percent of its revenue coming from the US market, so the expansion into Reno appears to be astute.
Over the last couple of years, following the global pandemic, land-based casinos have witnessed a steady increase in interest as players have been attracted back through the doors, despite explosive growth in the online casino industry.
Should Century’s plans come to fruition, there is no reason why it cannot make its Nugget Casino Resort one of the premier pieces of real estate in its crown.
