Macau Gaming Regulator Boss Gets Reassigned Out of Department
The Macau government has announced a significant reshuffling of its principal officials. Among them is the reassignment of Adriano Ho, the current director of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ, for its Portuguese acronym).

LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:According to the State Council's list of principal officials, Ho will transition to the role of director of Macau Customs under the incoming Chief Executive, Sam Hou Fai. This marks the end of Ho's four-and-a-half-year tenure at the helm of Macau's gaming regulatory authority, which began on 10 June 2020 when he succeeded Paulo Martins Chan.
Ho's career prior to his time at the DICJ reflects extensive experience in law enforcement and regulatory roles. Before leading the gaming regulator, he served as an advisor to the Secretary for Security and held several leadership positions in law enforcement. From 2004 to 2010, he was in charge of the Macao Sub-Bureau of the China National Central Bureau of INTERPOL. Subsequently, he led the Judiciary Police Criminal Investigation Department from 2010 to 2012 and the Gaming-related and Economic Crimes Investigation Department from 2012 to 2014.
Ho's tenure at the DICJ has been marked by challenges and changes in the gaming industry, including regulatory adjustments and the ongoing recovery from the global pandemic. His reassignment to Macau Customs signals a continued reliance on his expertise in security and law enforcement. As the government finalizes its reshuffling of officials, all eyes will be on the appointment of the new DICJ director, a decision crucial to the future regulation and development of Macau's gaming sector.
A new head for the DICJ has yet to be announced, and the government is expected to release further details in the coming weeks. The absence of an immediate successor highlights the importance of finding a suitable candidate to oversee one of Macau's most critical sectors, especially given the gaming industry's role as a cornerstone of the local economy.

Major Shakeup in Macau
In addition to Ho's reassignment, other changes in the Macau government include a series of new appointments to key positions. Cheong Weng Chon will continue in his role as Secretary for Administration and Law, and Wong Sio Chak remains as Secretary for Security.
However, there are several new faces among the principal officials, including O Lam, who will assume the position of Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, and Tai Kin Ip, currently the director of the Economic and Technological Development Bureau, who will become Secretary for Economy and Finance. Notably, O Lam was previously rumored to be a candidate for the Secretary for Economy and Finance role.
The reshuffle also sees Tam Wai Man, currently the director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, stepping into the position of Secretary for Transport and Works. Additionally, the current Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Leong U, will transition to become the director of the Commission of Audit, while Ao Leong Sheong will take over as Commissioner of the Commission Against Corruption.
