During a recent episode of All the Smoke, a podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, comedian Cedric the Entertainer spoke of the time he saw the two in a Las Vegas casino and the way in which Michael Jordan casually used $150,000 worth of Barkley’s casino chips.

So MJ comes in; MJ just grab a stack of Barkley’s chips. Maybe like a $150000 or something and Barkley be like, hey man, ‘What you get?’ MJ said ‘does it matter? You know I got you'. Like whatever it is. Like ‘c’mon man, tell me what it is.’ ‘I’m MJ. I got you. I just don’t wanna go and get chips.

He went on to say that, at times, the two were betting a combined total of $300,000, which, considering their shared love of gambling, is entirely believable.

Barkley and Jordan’s Love of Gambling

Charles Barkley has always been open about his gambling, including his sizeable losses. He once said that on several occasions, he has had major Las Vegas casino wins, but he said he has lost a million roughly 25 times. In 2022, Barkley said that he has scaled back the amount he wagers per bet from tens or hundreds of thousands to a figure closer to a thousand.

For Michael Jordan, gambling has always been a hobby. He is known to have placed a $10,000 bet with Charles Barkley during a Kenny Rogers Classic Weekend. According to the tennis player Kevin Curren, the two were arguing over who was the better athlete, and they agreed that they would settle their bet with a tennis match. Unfortunately, it is not known who won.

Betting on Golf with Jordan

Similarly, Jordan is known to love golf, and not only has he opened The Grove XXIII, an invitation-only golf club, but he is also known to bet vast amounts on the sport.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Cedric spoke about how a golf game with MJ opened his eyes to how much Jordan was gambling. The two made a simple bet: Cedric would win $1,000 for every hole he made and lose the same amount for every miss. Ultimately, Cedric ended up losing $18,000.

That kind of took me from betting altogether. Mike likes to play golf, and then he bets throughout the game and it gets pretty serious. It got out of my pay range very quickly.
