Michigan Gaming Regulator Holds Talks on College Sports Betting
The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB), the state gaming regulator, has announced it recently held a meeting with gambling stakeholders in the jurisdiction to discuss the regulation of college sports betting, with a special focus on young sporting athletes.

The MGCB brought together seasoned industry experts from within the gambling industry including the student body the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), sportsbook operator BetMGM, and the education services, IC360.
Top of the agenda was the regulation and compliance within the gambling industry in Michigan, and how the regulator can improve responsible gaming practices and provide an environment that will stop athletes from illegally gambling.
The Michigan Gaming Control Board is dedicated to fostering a transparent and compliant gaming environment, particularly in the realm of college sports betting, By hosting this panel discussion and engaging with NCAA Division I collegiate officials involved with overseeing compliance, talking about ways in which we might be able to work together to prevent student-athletes from illegal gambling, we aim to uphold the highest standards of integrity and responsibility.

Experts Want Gambling Policy Included in Student Athletes Curriculum
Currently, student-athletes in the state are subject to a K-12 curriculum, and included in this subject students are taught about the risks from topics including drugs, and alcohol. Some of the experts in the discussion panel have expressed the opinion they believe that gambling and gambling regulatory guidelines should be taught to student-athletes and added to the K-12 curriculum.
The MGCB has reiterated its commitment to Responsible Gaming and believes this collaboration among stakeholders in the gaming industry will allow the regulator to take a proactive approach to regulation and compliance of sports betting in Michigan.
Athletes are risk takers and are conditioned to know if they practice, they can get better, but the problem is that’s not how gambling works, Current K-12 educational curriculums include discussions about drugs, alcohol, and stranger danger but not about gambling, risk taking, and decision-making. We need to create curriculum about gambling so that we can empower our student-athletes and equip them with the tools they need to succeed in life after college.
Recently in May the MGCB issued a warning to Bovada to stop accepting bets from customers in Michigan.
