Michigan Increases Funding to Police Regulated Gambling Market
In a move to bolster the regulatory framework of Michigan's burgeoning online gaming and sports betting industry, the Michigan Legislature has earmarked $1.9 million in the state's fiscal year budget. This allocation is specifically designated for the addition of 14 full-time staff members to the Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB).

The MGCB, through a recent press release, has stated that the infusion of new personnel is crucial for enhancing the agency's oversight capabilities. The additional staff will be instrumental in supporting the MGCB's regulatory operations related to Internet gaming and sports betting and eliminating more unlicensed sites like it recently did with Bovada.
Furthermore, the Compulsive Gambling Prevention Fund, along with its associated initiatives, is set to receive a substantial boost with a $3 million increase in funding courtesy of the MGCB. This augmentation of resources will significantly enhance the operational efficacy of the 24/7 Gambling Disorder Helpline, managed by the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services.
The additional funds are also earmarked for supporting comprehensive research on gambling and the development of educational programs targeted at the youth.
