New Bill Aims to Bring Mobile Sports Betting to Alaska
A new bill has been introduced in the Alaska House of Representatives that aims to legalize mobile sports wagering in the state.

Sponsored by Rep. David Nelson, House Bill 145 would permit Alaskans to place sports wagers online. Under the legislation, Alaska would offer a maximum of 10 mobile wagering licenses, with each operator required to pay a $100,000 licensing fee.
Licenses would be valid for one year, and operators may face an additional processing fee for new licenses or renewals.
The bill would grant the Alaska Department of Revenue regulatory oversight of sports wagering, with the commissioner responsible for issuing and renewing mobile betting licenses.
Additionally, licensed operators would be mandated to implement software monitoring systems to detect and track unusual betting patterns. They must then report the irregularities to the commissioner in a timely manner.
The measure also outlines guidelines for responsible sports betting marketing practices in the state. It prohibits operators from promoting or advertising mobile sports betting to individuals under the age of 21.
Licensed operators must also provide information and resources on gambling disorders on their mobile wagering platforms.

Furthermore, House Bill 145 proposes a 20% tax rate on adjusted gross revenue derived from wagering activities. It also mandates operators to keep daily records of their gross and adjusted gross receipts.
The bill enables eligible sports bettors to fund their accounts using traditional payment methods like credit and debit cards, as well as newer third-party online and mobile payment systems.
The legislation has advanced past its first reading and is being reviewed by the House Labor & Commerce and Finance Committees.
If approved, the bill would see Alaska launch its sports wagering market on January 1, 2026.
Since the US Supreme Court repealed PASPA in 2018, 39 states, including Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., have legalized sports betting in various forms.
