NJ Establishes Task Force to Address Gambling Concerns
New Jersey has taken a step further in addressing gambling problems in its jurisdiction.
The task force will review problem gambling and develop strategies to combat it in New Jersey.
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:The state's governor, Phil Murphy, has signed an executive order establishing a Responsible Gaming Task Force in the Garden State.
The task force will be led by Attorney General Matthew Platkin as Chair and consist of six other government representatives or their designees, including The Chair of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission, the Director of the state's Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement's Director, the Director of the Division of State Lottery, the Executive Director of the New Jersey Racing Commission and the Commissioner of the Department of Human Services.
The Responsible Gambling Task Force will conduct a comprehensive review of the problem gambling landscape, with a particular focus on its impact on underage and vulnerable communities. They will also develop strategies to promote responsible gaming practices and recommend policy changes to address problem gambling.
I applaud Governor Murphy for his leadership in elevating responsible gaming initiatives through the establishment of a statewide task force. New Jersey has been a national leader in casino and sports wagering for many years, and we owe it to our residents to review and expand our existing efforts on problem gambling.

Gambling Success Comes with a Cost
New Jersey ranks high on the list of most lucrative gambling markets in the US. In April, the state's overall gambling revenue grew by 10.4% to $510.9 million. The figures indicated a year-to-date solid growth of 14.4% to $2.06 billion.
This gambling success has also led to increased concerns for gambling-related problems. According to Felicia Grondin, Executive Director of the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey, the number of requests for support through New Jersey's gambling helpline has more than doubled over the years.
With Executive Order No. 360, Governor Murphy aims to mitigate the negative consequences of gambling and promote a safer and more sustainable gaming environment in New Jersey.
New Jersey is known to be a gaming destination with historic locations like Atlantic City, amusement gaming at the Jersey Shore, notable horse racing venues and more. This Task Force will see to it that we maintain our global leadership in gaming by ensuring that we have the tools needed to address problem gaming for our residents.
