Gateway Casinos Set to Launch in North Bay Early 2022

Canadian leading casino operator Gateway Casinos has announced that its new casino in North Bay will open early next year and employ 200 new staff.

The casino operator is currently holding a two-week job fair where it aims to hire people into more than 200 positions locally, most of which would work in the new casino.

According to Rob Mitchell, the director of communications and public affairs with Gateway Casinos, the company was well prepared against the Covid-19 Pandemic. Gateway Casinos "had purchased a lot of the construction materials and warehoused a lot of materials in advance of the lockdown really coming in at full force."

Although work is not being carried out on the exterior of the building, Mitchell also added that staff is working on the inside.

Most of the build is happening internally. It's infrastructure-related, and if you've been in a casino, the wiring is critical, so it is a lot of electrical work that is beneath the flooring, so that has to be installed and then also there's all the kitchen amenities.

Currently, there is no specific launch date for the casino. However, Mitchell expects all staff to be hired early next year, followed by a 'soft opening' before the casino opens its doors to the general populace.

There are two reasons to get behind a casino in North Bay. Almost 300 jobs for our community, 300 jobs. We're anticipating we're going to receive between one and two million dollars per year, depending on the revenue of the casino. We're always looking for innovative ways to create more revenue to reduce the taxes, and here is a business that is going to generate between one and two million dollars to our city.
