Connecticut Set for Limited iGaming Launch

Good news for Connecticut residents as iGaming and online sports betting is finally coming to stay in the jurisdiction.

In May, a majority of Connecticut lawmakers approved the gambling expansion bill, which allowed for more gambling activities and laid the framework for the legalization and establishment of online gambling platforms in the state.

Last Friday, the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (DCP) removed the last hurdle between iGaming and the people when they gave the final approval for online gaming operations to the Mohegan and Mashantucket Pequot tribes, as well as the Connecticut Lottery Corp.

So, starting from today, October 12, 2021, online sportsbooks and casinos will begin to offer real money services to players in Connecticut. However, it’s going to be a soft launch as the government only allow the tribal groups and the Lottery Corporation to accept real money bets from several hundred players on a seven-day period. The state’s two casinos will also feature over 100 online casino games without live dealers or peer-to-peer activity as specified by the state.

The soft launch will allow the online casinos and sportsbooks to test their platforms and features and as well ensure they follow state directives before getting permanent approval.

The new development has led to several partnerships amongst the states’ recognized casinos and gaming content providers. Mohegan Sun partnered with FanDuel, Foxwoods entered into an agreement with DraftKings Inc., and the Connecticut Lottery partnered with Rush Street Interactive.

After more than a decade of advocacy and negotiation, statewide sports betting and iGaming is finally coming to Connecticut. We’ve made it to the finish line, and we’re excited to finally launch.
