Palms Las Vegas Improves Payouts at Blackjack Tables
The Palms casino-hotel in Las Vegas, an off-Strip casino, is going against a long-standing industry trend by making its blackjack games more favorable for players.

Removing 6:5 Payouts
It has introduced a 3:2 payout on all its blackjack tables, on both the main casino floor and high-limit sections. Previously, the Palms Casino Resort offered a combination of tables paying either 3:2 or the more common 6:5 payout found on the Las Vegas Strip.
We are committed to delivering the best gaming experience for our guests, especially our local players. Enhancing and expanding our blackjack offerings reflects our dedication to providing top-tier table games and ensuring an exceptional experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
The payout difference between the two formats is substantial. In a 3:2 game, a $10 blackjack bet pays $15, while the same bet pays just $12 at a 6:5 table. For players, these differences can add up quickly and affect both enjoyment and winnings.

Responding to Market Pressures
Following the pandemic, many land-based casinos raised table minimums and introduced games with higher house edges, such as triple-zero roulette and 6:5 blackjack. However, some venues are now reconsidering those changes.
John Mehaffey, a respected player advocate, said that market pressures influence these changes. He explained that casinos would likely have felt some kind of pushback from players to the 6:5 payouts and were losing customers, especially at the tables with lower betting limits. As such, the casinos will have realized that while it is hard to make a profit at a $5 table with 3:2 payouts, by offering better payouts, those players may be encouraged to sit at the $10 or $15 tables.
Despite the improved payout structure, Palms will not raise its table game minimums. Guests can continue to enjoy $5 blackjack and $5 craps around the clock.
