Pennsylvania Gaming Revenue Increases 6% In September
LISTEN TO THIS ARTICLE:Pennsylvania's gaming industry witnessed a robust 6% surge in revenue this September compared to the same month last year. It reached a total of $476,278,004, as reported by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
iGaming on the Rise
Setting a new monthly record, the state raked in $159.5 million from iGaming, marking a substantial year-over-year increase of 41.5%. This milestone surpasses the previous record of $148.2 million set in March 2023.
Leading the charge in gaming revenue was Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville, boasting $77.0 million—a substantial 16.7% increase over September 2022. Valley Forge Casino Resort followed closely with $66.1 million, experiencing a commendable year-over-year growth of 24.5%. Meanwhile, Park Casino in Philadelphia saw a modest uptick of 0.29%, generating $55.8 million during the same period in 2022.
Slot revenue in September reached $199.9 million, marking a slight increase of 0.7% from September 2022. Parx Casino secured the top spot among all casinos with slot revenue of $31.5 million, although it faced a year-over-year decrease of -2.21%. Wind Creek Bethlehem experienced an 8.2% year-over-year increase, generating $23.7 million, while Rivers Casino Pittsburgh reported a decrease of -5.1%, amassing $21.2 million in slot revenue.
Hollywood Casino at Penn National played a pivotal role in Pennsylvania's record iGaming revenue, contributing a substantial $64.8 million, representing more than a third of the total. Valley Forge Casino Resort reported iGaming revenue of $35.4 million, while Rivers Casino Philadelphia generated $29.2 million.
The results beat the figures recorded in August, which proved to be a slower month. Pennsylvania's gambling revenue was $457.2 million in August, a 2.1% dip from the $467 million in the previous month. However, it was a 7.5% increase from the $467 million from a year earlier.
Sports Betting Sees Significant Drop
On the sports betting front, Pennsylvania accrued $36.6 million in revenue in September from a handle of $726.3 million. This represents a significant 7.2% year-over-year decline, despite the arrival of the NFL season, as well as ongoing MLB and soccer activity.
Valley Forge Casino Resort led the sports betting revenue charts with $19.1 million from a handle of $256.4 million. Hollywood Casino at the Meadows in Meadowlands contributed $8.6 million in revenue from a handle of $230.5 million.
Parx Casino, with a handle of $22.6 million, yielded revenue of $2.1 million, slightly surpassing Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, which reported revenue of $2.0 million from a handle of $31.5 million.
