Police Arrest Twelve in Illegal Gambling Operation in Texas
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas has announced it has arrested more than a dozen individuals in connection with an illegal gambling scheme In the state generating over $22 million.

Law enforcement in Texas worked in concert on the investigation named Operation Double Down to bust the illegal game rooms gambling activity. This involved over 700 law enforcement officers from 18 agencies, the issuing of 45 search and 40 seizure warrants throughout the state of Texas.
The investigation uncovered multiple game rooms in the region and led to the seizure of an estimated $16 million in cash, along with property and guns used in the operation of the illegal gambling venues.
Additionally seized by law enforcement were around 2,000 slot machines located in the gaming venues and a further $6.5 million from bank accounts of the ringleaders arrested.

Charges Brought Against Suspects
The leaders of the illegal gambling game rooms are facing charges of operating an illegal gambling business, conspiracy, racketeering, and conspiracy to commit money laundering. The Department of Justice outlined these charges carry prison sentences that range from five to twenty years for any of the groups who are convicted.
Additionally, law enforcement for the South District of Texas said that another two suspects have been charged in connection with the gambling arrests. Sayed Ali, 59, of Richmond, and Stephanie Huerta, 35, of Houston have been charged but are fugitives and are subject to outstanding warrants.
This news comes a couple of months after legislators in Texas confirmed there would be no chance of casino legalization this year.
