Before the new role, Griffiths has been serving as the Deputy Chair of GambleAware's Board of Trustees and Chair of the charity's Performance and Delivery Committee since 2018.

A renowned physician and public health expert in the UK, Griffiths was the President of the UK Faculty of Public Health from 2001 to 2005. Her rich career also spanned strategic leadership in public health policy and network management, including directorial and chair roles at Public Health England and Public Health England Global Health Committee.

I am delighted to accept this appointment and continue ensuring gambling harms are seen as a serious public health issue. Due to the stigma surrounding gambling harm, it can be hard for people to seek help. We need a public health approach that recognizes wider societal influences and focuses on early intervention and prevention. GambleAware's independence from the industry is crucial and evident in all its work.

Griffiths Takes Reins from Lampard

Griffiths succeeds Baroness Kate Lampard (CBE), who has been appointed to head a major government inquiry into the deaths of mental health inpatients in Essex. Lampard assumed the Chair role in 2016 and spearheaded the transformation of GambleAware into an independent organization comprising leaders from the NHS and public health communities.

Furthermore, under Lampard's leadership, GambleAware successfully advocated a statutory levy on the gambling industry to support vital research, education, and treatment initiatives. She also oversaw the expansion of the gambling harms network and collaborated with key stakeholders to revamp the National Gambling Support Network.

I am pleased to be succeeded by Sian and to leave the charity in safe hands. Gambling harms affects everyone. Working with individuals from the lived experience community has shown me the profound impact of gambling harm. Statutory funding is essential to address this issue. I am proud of our achievements and have enjoyed seeing the charity and gambling harms system grow over the past eight years. I wish GambleAware and Sian all the best for the future.
