Safer Gambling Week 2023 Begins across the United Kingdom
The seventh annual Safer Gambling Week 2023 has begun in the UK and will continue until November 19. The initiative, run by the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC), the British Amusement Catering Trade Association (Bacta), and the Bingo Association, is designed to encourage those in the industry to promote safer gambling to their customers.
Building on the Success of 2022
Safer Gambling Week 2022 led to 200,000 accounts implementing deposit limits, a 12.5% increase from 2021. A significant 61% of these were first-time limit setters. The use of reality checks among players also saw significant growth, increasing by 300% compared to the previous year. Additionally, the campaign achieved nearly 30 million social media impressions, a 21% rise from 2021.
Safer Gambling Week is now a well-established annual event, promoting the vital safer gambling tools only available in the regulated betting and gaming sector and signposting help to those that need it. Core to this is our commitment to empower customers with the knowledge and tools to bet safely all year round.
Huge Support for Safer Gambling Week
The initiative has received extensive support from the industry, government, and beyond. Gambling Minister Stuart Andrew said that the week helps increase awareness and use of responsible gambling tools.
We welcome the gambling industry using this week to increase uptake and awareness of this important issue.
UK Gambling Commission (UKGC)'s chief executive Andrew Rhodes explained that safety should always be considered when gambling: “Safer Gambling Week affords the unique opportunity to draw even more attention to its importance.”
New Ads Launched to Highlight Week
To mark the week, Betfred has collaborated with Zút, a creative and production agency, to launch a new safer gambling campaign. The campaign, asking “How Do You Keep It Fun?”, which consists of a series of four ads, encourages practices like setting personal limits and managing gaming session durations.
