Sean Wilkins Joins 888 as Chief Financial Officer
Leading online betting operator 888 has appointed Sean Wilkins as its new chief financial officer. Wilkins, with past links to Superbet and Tesco, will officially assume his new role on 1 February 2024. He steps in for Yariv Dafna, who had previously communicated his departure plans in January.
Though Dafna had intended to conclude his tenure by 31 March, he committed to stay with 888 until the year's end. However, a recent update confirms his departure on 2 October. During this interim, Vaughan Lewis, the chief strategy officer, will fill in the CFO position.
Wilkins’ Impressive Career to Date
Wilkins comes with an impressive background, currently serving as the group CFO for Romanian omnichannel operator Superbet. His previous assignments include being group CFO at a global sightseeing enterprise, Big Bus Tours, and holding senior financial positions at renowned companies like Domino’s Pizza Group and Tesco. Furthermore, Wilkins also played the role of CFO for O2's Asian division.
Having worked in the regulated online betting and gaming industry over recent years, I have followed 888 closely. Following its transformational acquisition of William Hill, the group has all the ingredients for long-term success: outstanding brands, technology and people. The board has set out very clear plans to create significant shareholder value. I am really looking forward to being part of the leadership team to deliver these plans and achieve the group’s clear potential.
888 executive chair Lord Mendelsohn praised Wilkins’ profound understanding of the betting and iGaming industry, along with his rich history of value creation in international businesses.
Leadership Evolution at 888
The decision to bring Wilkins on board aligns with Per Widerström's coming start as the chief executive, slated for 16 October. Previously the CEO of Fortuna Entertainment Group, Widerström has also collaborated with industry giants like Bwin.party and Gala Coral Interactive.
This reshuffling allows Mendelsohn to revert to a non-executive position after temporarily steering the company as the executive chair following Itai Pazner's exit in January. As Mendelsohn remarked, the inclusion of both Wilkins and Widerström establishes an "outstanding" executive team for 888. Widerström expressed gratitude towards the departing Dafna for his pivotal contributions, including overseeing the merger with William Hill and ensuring a seamless integration of the businesses.
