The Swedish gambling authority, Spelinspektionen, has handed out its first bans of the year to two companies alleged to have offered illegal gambling services in the country. According to the regulator, True Polygon Entertainment Limited and Smein Hosting NV conducted gambling operations in Sweden without having the necessary licenses.

True Polygon Entertainment's CSGOBIG website and affiliates, along with Smein Hosting's Gamdom brand websites and affiliates, were also discovered to have targeted the Swedish audience in their marketing campaigns.

Spelinspektionen pointed out that from its investigation, the websites would not have prevented Swedish players from registering and betting on their platforms. It further stated that the two brands were offered an opportunity to provide a statement on the issue, but as of now, there has been no response from either company.

Meeting with Industry Bodies

The development comes a month after Spelinspektionen held talks with SPER, the national organization for the Swedish gambling industry, and the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling, Branschföreningen för Onlinespel, over illegal gambling and how they can work together to combat it.

In the meeting, the authority presented its existing regulations and initiatives to counter the illegal gambling market in Spain. It also accepted suggestions from the groups for improvement. Last week, Spelinspektionen announced a collaboration with the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) that will see both organizations share betting information with each other.

The two entities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for sports betting to monitor suspicious betting activities in Swedish sports and share the information. The Swedish government stated that it would amend gambling legislation in the jurisdiction to accommodate the MoU.
