Caesars also said that for the first time, more game parlays were placed than traditional straight bets in Super Bowl wagering.

With the Chiefs falling behind early we observed a substantial handle and wagers increase on their chances of a comeback. A significant amount of wagers flooded in on KC at longer odds on the money line and all spreads we posted, all the way up to +28.5. This rare opportunity to bet on Patrick Mahomes at such generous spreads and odds proved to drive significant growth and led to our largest in-play handle for a Super Bowl ever.

Majority of Handle Placed on Philadelphia

At BetMGM, 60% of tickets and 56% of the money were placed on the Eagles to win at +100 on the money line. Additionally, 54% of bets and 64% of the handle backed Philadelphia as a +1.5-point underdog.

Those who took the over on the 48.5-point total also cashed in, with 61% of tickets and 57% of the money going in that direction.

Numerous bets were also placed on Jalen Hurts, with the most money wagered on him at +375 to win Super Bowl MVP, as well as the second-highest number of tickets placed. Hurts delivered with two passing touchdowns, one rushing score via a tush push, 221 passing yards, and 72 rushing yards.

Bookmakers Benefited from Strong Defenses

Christian Cipollini, BetMGM’s senior trading manager, explained that while those who bet on the Eagles money line and Jalen Hurts MVP won big, the success of both defenses in handling Saquon Barkley and Travis Kelce resulted in a strong outcome for the bookmakers.

Barkley’s rushing total was set at 110.5 yards, yet he finished with just 57. Before the game, he had topped 100 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups and nine of his last 10.

Kelce was projected to record 61.5 receiving yards but ended with just 39 yards on four catches. It was his second underwhelming playoff performance in a row, following a two-catch, 19-yard outing in the AFC Championship against the Buffalo Bills.
