Strong Start to Single-Event Sports Betting in Canada

In its first full week of operation, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) processed more than CA$1 million in sports bets at its new online sportsbook.

Proline+ launched on August 27, the same day that single-event sports betting became legal in Canada, and it is the province’s only legal sportsbook. In its first full five days of operation, 74% of all bets placed were single-event bets, and 37% of bets were placed in-play. Furthermore, 82% of all bets were placed on baseball, football, and soccer.

Ontario bettors had been waiting for a best-in-class option to place bets, and that’s exactly what OLG has delivered with Proline+. We’re experiencing excellent engagement with those who registered early, and we only expect to see the number of new users increase as word about Proline+ continues to spread, particularly as the American football season gets underway next week.

The new sportsbook was launched in partnership with Sporting Solutions and FDJ Gaming Solutions. It makes use of Sporting Solutions’ trading services and the advanced betting platform from FDJ, which gives customers the ability to place bets from multiple devices.

FDJ Gaming Solutions’ chief executive Xavier Etienne welcomed the launch calling it a “key achievement” for the company that has ambitions across North America. He described it as a “solid foundation” from which to grow and distribute the company’s “sports betting pricing, risk management, and managed services to those looking to optimize and differentiate their sportsbook.”

There were several other single-event sports betting services launched during the first week of regulation, including by the Atlantic Lottery for customers in New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Prince Edward Island.

Similarly, the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC) launched its first online betting service in the province. The new service uses NeoPollard Interactive’s (NPi) NeoSphere iLottery Technology, as well as Sporting Solutions’ advanced betting platform and trading services.
