UKGC and GRAI Sign MOU Agreement for Greater Collaboration
National gaming regulators the United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) and the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) have announced they have agreed to a new partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This agreement marks the start of a period of collaboration between the gaming regulators of two neighboring jurisdictions.

The MOU covers several areas where both legislators believe they have common goals in their gambling framework structure. The eventual aim is to forge closer links between the UKGC and GRAI and work towards a more coordinated set of regulatory guidelines between the two regions.
The GRAI has stated they believe this deal will be the first of many as they hope to enter into similar arrangements with other national gaming regulators within the European jurisdiction in the near future.

MOU Outlines Areas of Collaboration
In details of the MOU one of the key areas in the regulatory process is compliance within the gaming industry. With both regulators sharing information and working towards regulatory alignment it will be easier to ensure regulated gambling companies in the region achieve compliance to both regulators.
As part of its compliance procedures last month the UKGC issued a fine against Corbett for compliance failures.
Additionally, other areas of shared interest are monitoring and enforcement, which applies to both regulated gaming operators and gambling companies that operate in the region without the proper required licenses.
Gaming operators within the UK and Ireland have many shared procedures and both the UKGC and GRAI feel this collaboration will make it easier for gambling companies in the region to operate to a unified set of standards.
This Memorandum of Understand with the UK Gambling Commission is an important step in formalising the working relationship between the two regulators and I would like to thank Andrew Rhodes, and a number of his colleagues across the various areas of the Commission for their advice and support over the past number of months. Ireland and the UK share many of the same operators and gambling practices, so putting this agreement in place will enhance our ability to share information and discharge our respective regulatory responsibilities effectively. Open dialogue and close cooperation between both jurisdictions is paramount and I greatly look forward to continuing this close cooperation’s for the years to come.
