WPT Cancels Macau Poker Series Planned for June
The World Poker Tour (WPT) has thrown a curveball at poker fans in Asia by abruptly canceling its highly anticipated tournament series in Macau. The return of the series, announced with much fanfare in January, was slated to run June 18-24 at Wynn Macau.

This cancellation wasn't an isolated incident. Several other poker tournament series in Asia have been called off at the last minute recently. Since November 2023, a worrying trend of last-minute cancellations has plagued Vietnam's poker scene, with a total of four series falling through.
One such series was the WPT Vietnam Passport, which was scheduled for Crown Poker Club from May 14 to 27th, 2024. These Vietnamese cancellations were reportedly due to technical reasons and a lack of proper approval from regulatory bodies, despite having been organized months in advance.
The lack of transparency surrounding the WPT Macau cancellation and the recent spate of last-minute cancellations in Vietnam raise concerns about the overall health of the Asian poker market. It's unclear if these events are isolated incidents or indicative of deeper issues.
